Starfish Family Services Continues to Serve Metro Detroit Families During Pandemic

June 10, 2020

Since 1963, Starfish Family Services has supported underserved families in Metro Detroit with early childhood education, behavioral health wellness, and parenting programs. While the COVID-19 pandemic caused its 18 centers to close, Starfish still serves over 4000 children and their families.

Through weekly food distribution (in cooperation with Gleaner’s Community Food Bank), drive-thru diaper and formula distribution, online preschool programs, and teletherapy sessions for Starfish clients, this organization stays present for its families.

Read more about its programs, other resources for families during the pandemic, and how to donate here.

She’s The First – Race for Equality

September 16, 2015

Jharana and Sirjana are two She’s The First Scholars from Nepal, and they have organized a 5K to raise awareness about working towards equality for girls.  This event took place on August 26, and this coincided with the 95th Anniversary of American women winning the right to vote.  To make the run more personal, each participant wore a tag on their backs in an effort to raise awareness for something that they believe in.
